Get Ready for Adventure
Welcome to Europe by Bike 25! This is a community project of international students where we cycle all over Europe and anyone can join us. On this website you will find everything you need to become part of the group, support us or just follow the project. Everyone is welcome in our group, no matter your age, gender, background or experience in cycling. Feel free to get in touch with the team if you want to be part of it or if you have any questions. This is a non-profit project, so nobody aims to earn money with it or get a commercial benefit. If there's money left over at the end, 100% of it will be donated to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
ESTIEM is a European student association with 77 Local Groups in 26 countries. The idea of Europe by Bike 25 is to visit (nearly) all LGs of ESTIEM by bike within one year. ESTIEMers and externals can join wherever they want and stay as long as they want, so we are one core team with changing participants. The route goes through 25 countries and hundrets of cities on a distance of 20,000 km. On the way, we're visiting student events, spend the night with local friends or sleep outdoors. We are going to cross almost all of Europe and prove that bike trips are possible without much effort for non-professionals. By exploring new long and short distance cycle routes, we are contributing to a more regional connectivity. The project has already gained a high profile in ESTIEM and we are aiming to make it known outside of ESTIEM as well. At the Council Meeting in Aveiro 2024, Europe by Bike 25 won the Ad Fundum Award from the Club of 100 of ESTIEM, which gave the additional motivation to expand the simple project into a community event. The next steps are to plan the tour in more detail and coordinate it with potential participants and hosts. It is therefore important that all interested people fill out the forms in near future (Forms can be edited later). We are also looking for cooperation partners to secure the project financially. It would be great if we could reach as many people as possible and create a new community of cycling enthusiasts in Europe. Thank you for your time and, as we we say in ESTIEM: See you somewhere in Europe! 💚

- [22.09.2023] "The first preparation tour, designed as a survival challenge, was one of the most exciting events in my life. I have never slept alone in the forest before and this time I was in the mountains and kilometers away from any other human being - for 100 hours! I had no idea wether my equipment works until I found out in the first night. Sometimes during the night I was scared of the strange noises in the woods and the darkness all around me without having the possibility to switch on any light, not even a match! Also the limited, uncooked food was a challenge. I couldn't afford any luxery because I had to transport everything I wanted to eat in five days on my bike. Even the water I had to carry myself for all five days. But the tour was also a great experience of nature and feeling as an original human being. Since then, I feel more confident in the forest than ever before and am less afraid of wild animals and the darkness."
- Ever since he was a child, Jonathan had dreamed of cycling around the Baltic Sea and sleeping outdoors. During the strict lockdown in Germany, he had plenty of time, but the borders were closed. So he planned the trip after finishing his bachelor's degree, in the meantime he became active in ESTIEM and so the idea of combining the two was born. And since Jonathan doesn't do things by halves, he quickly extended the route to the whole of Europe to set an example for an open Europe, environmentally friendly travel and peaceful coexistence.
